ADSL equipment maintenance experience highlights

【Introduction】

Daily maintenance

The necessary daily maintenance of ADSL equipment can not only reduce unexpected failures, keep the network smooth, but also increase the service life of the equipment. The main daily maintenance includes the following:

1. ADSL Modem is generally best to be used in a working environment with a temperature of 0 ~ 40 ℃ and a relative humidity of 5% ~ 95%, and to maintain a stable, clean and ventilated working environment. Generally, the voltage range that ADSL Modem can adapt is between 200V ~ 240V.

2. The ADSL Modem should be far away from the power cord and high-power electronic equipment, such as power amplifier equipment and high-power speakers.

3. To ensure that the ADSL telephone line connection is reliable, without failure and interference, try not to connect it directly to telephone extensions and other equipment, such as fax machines. To connect the extension, you can connect through the "PHONE" port of the splitter.

4. In thunderstorm weather, be sure to unplug the power and all connections of the ADSL Modem to avoid damage from lightning strikes; it is best not to use the ADSL Modem for a long time in hot weather to prevent the ADSL Modem from malfunctioning and burning due to overheating.

5. Do not place any heavy objects on the ADSL Modem, keep it dry and ventilated, avoid water and direct sunlight, and do not place the ADSL Modem on the computer's main box.

6. Regularly clean the ADSL Modem, you can use a soft cloth to clean the dust and dirt on the surface of the device.

7. Regularly unplug the power cord, network cable, splitter and telephone line (junction box) connected to the ADSL Modem, check them for poor contact, damage, and if damaged, the telephone line connector should be oxidized in time replace.


Typical failure

In the process of using ADSL equipment, it is inevitable that such and other failures will occur. By analyzing the failures, we can not only find a solution, but also better maintain the ADSL equipment. Here we take Huawei's SmartAX MT800 ADSL Modem (Figure 2) as an example to introduce the method of troubleshooting and maintenance equipment:

1. The Power light is off, indicating that there is a problem with the power connection. You must use a dedicated power adapter and a safe and reliable power socket.

2. The Link / Act light of ADSL is off, indicating that the phone line is faulty. Check the connection of the phone line to see if there is a disconnection; if the Link / Act light flashes frequently, the signal of the phone line is unstable.

Tips: If you are installing China Telecom ADSL, you can call Telecom's 112 fault station and ask a professional to help you troubleshoot the line.

3. The Link / Act light of the LAN is off, indicating that there is a problem with the network connection or network card. First check whether the network cable connection is normal, and then open the "Device Manager" in Windows to see if the network card device is abnormal. If there is a "?" Or "!" Mark in front of the device name, you can consider reinstalling the network card driver or opening the chassis to install another slot.

Software maintenance

Because ADSL Modem realizes virtual dialing through software, and network card, external USB interface and built-in ADSL Modem must install drivers, so it is also essential to maintain software for them.

1. It is recommended that you do not install multiple PPPoE virtual dialing software, use one or two dialing software, such as WinPoET, RASPPPoE, etc. In Windows XP, you can also use the system's own virtual dialing software.

2. For ADSL users, dial-up connection generally uses "automatically obtain IP address", if the ISP does not require it, DNS server uses "automatically obtain DNS server address".

3. When dialing, the dialing speed is often slow or paused in the "Connecting to WAN Miniport (PPPoE)" window, and there is no response. When you encounter these problems, you can generally restart the computer to solve the problem.

4. For the ADSL Modem and the host network card connected to the "Ethernet" (Ethernet) port, we can periodically download the latest drivers from their official website to install, to play their best performance.
