Munich-based Siemens expects the LED market to grow to $13 billion (approximately 980 million euros) by 2013 and an additional 44% by 2016. Philips in Amsterdam expects LEDs to account for 45% of the lighting market by 2015.
Maryrose Sylvester said that although LED bulbs are still more expensive than other bulbs, the price of LED bulbs has begun to decline as environmental regulations have focused on energy conservation. In the United States, the regulations for the elimination of 100-watt incandescent bulbs in 2007 will come into effect next year, followed by the phasing out of 75-watt bulbs in 2013, and the elimination of 40-watt and 60-watt bulbs in 2014.
Since LED efficiency depends on LED packaging and how it is configured, GE is focused on providing overall LED lighting system design for commercial customers. Pike Research expects LED lighting to account for 52% of market share in commercial lighting alone by 2021. . This year, the commercial lighting market is expected to reach $42 billion and will reach a peak of $54 billion in 2012.
