Ball Grid Technology

Ball Grid Technology is based on electromagnetic induction technology and consists of a reading head and a ruler.

Different from other sensors, the ball grid adopts non-contact measurement. All circuits and measurement originals are enclosed in a ruler or reading head with protection class IP67. Accurate and reliable measurements can be achieved even in harsh environments.

Ruler

The ruler consists of a stainless steel tube (ball-grid 1200 series) or carbon fiber tube (micro-gate 1000 series), which contains a precision nickel-cadmium alloy ball. During production commissioning, the alloy ball is loaded with a certain amount of pre-tightening force and arranged closely.

Reading head

The coils and circuits are encapsulated in the readhead. After the assembly has been tested, the readhead will be filled with epoxy to protect the internal circuit structure.

working principle

Ball grid measurement is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. After energization, the excitation coil in the readhead generates an induced magnetic field. During the measurement, the reading head moves relative to the ruler body. The nickel-cadmium alloy ball in the body cuts the induced magnetic field lines. The acquisition coil is responsible for collecting the resulting sensing signals.

In a ball pitch (such as every 12.7 mm), the cross-sectional area of ​​the magnetic field lines at different positions of the alloy ball is different, and the induced voltage collected by the acquisition coil also changes. In one cycle, the measured position values ​​are all absolute values. During the measurement, the reading head slides along the ruler. The phase of the output signal will change periodically.
