UCloud: Overseas "cloud" war, we win the idea of layout

【World Wide Web Reporter Zhang Zhiying】 Ali cloud, Tencent cloud, Baidu cloud, Huawei cloud ..., various enterprise-level cloud platform surging, UCloud in recent years in the constant accumulation of sudden emergence, becoming rare start-ups from small start-up companies today can A cloud computing company that decides to defeat the big makers.

According to UCloud's data, the number of customers served exceeds 50,000, and the output value exceeds 100 billion. The scale of the company has expanded to 600 employees. How will UCloud continue to move forward? How to get a broader road in the highly competitive cloud market? Yang Lei, general manager of UCloud's interactive entertainment division, accepted an interview with Global Internet, and shared the market status, future strategies of the cloud platform, and overseas deployment strategies.

Founded in 2012, UCloud is one of the first domestic self-developed cloud service providers to participate in the cloud computing industry. After its demolition of the VIE architecture in 2016, UCloud has become a purely domestic-funded large-scale cloud computing company. Prior to this, DCM, Bertelsmann, Julian Capital, Optical Capital, and Guokai Kaiyuan had invested in UCloud. Up to now, UCloud has become the cloud computing company with the highest total financing in China.

Last week, UCloud CEO Ji Shenghua announced at the TIC 2017 conference that the company had received RMB 960 million D round of financing. This is the second time that UCloud won nearly 100 million U.S. dollars in C round of financing in 2015. It is again favored by the capital market. The investors are Yuanxiao Holdings and China International Capital Group.

UCloud Launches Data Center in Korea and Taiwan

UCloud claims to be the third largest public cloud platform after Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud. In the face of BAT menacing, UCloud strove to find a way of their own. When Yang Lei accepted an exclusive interview with the Global Network, he said that if he carefully observes, he will find UCloud's construction of overseas data center nodes and has his own set of ideas in overseas deployment. For example, the overseas layout of other manufacturers needs to coordinate with the group's overall overseas strategy; but UCloud, based on a deep understanding of the vertical industry, can efficiently coordinate the company's core resources to meet customer needs.

“Because it was found that Chinese Internet companies are developing rapidly in Taiwan and South Korea, South Korea has very high quality requirements for the network. When there are no South Korean nodes, only Hong Kong, Japan and other nodes are used to cover South Korean users. At that time, Korean users feedback on the application experience. It was very strong, so we launched data centers in Korea and Taiwan in January 2017.” Yang Lei said: “This is what Ali and Tencent did not do.”

"Using the core resources quickly according to the development trend of the vertical industry is a unique advantage of UCloud," Yang said.

UCloud’s overseas layout ideas and game solutions can also be explored. According to Chen Xiaojian, senior vice president of UCloud, “In the global service solution, the largest number of customers are game manufacturers. The general demand for game companies is to go to sea, Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe are all their expansion markets, which is why UCloud chose Establish data centers in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe."

Make good use of China's technological advantages

Yang Lei said that at present, UCloud's first step will be to meet the needs of Chinese companies to go to sea, pay attention to the direction of Chinese companies in the Asia-Pacific business, to do a solid part of this, and accumulate more experience. In addition, some of the energy will be separated from the local local companies to explore other cooperation possibilities. Yang Lei plans to visit local companies in Taiwan this month.

“From my point of view, I am still optimistic about the speed of development of China’s current Internet companies. Many applications are actually better than Taiwan and South Korea, such as the popularity of mobile payments. We generally find it very inconvenient to go abroad, and electronic payments. Can not be used."

In the eyes of Yang Lei, the cloud computing market is the same. He mentioned that a game client of UCloud had previously used the services of a local IDC vendor in Korea and encountered a lot of problems and the product was unstable. "At that time they wanted to go to UCloud, but UCloud had no nodes in Korea at the time and had to do a solution for him first. When UCloud Korea was built, he moved all of his business."

“When we overcome the barriers of language, communication methods and business cooperation, our products will have advantages in terms of the quality and condition of our customers’ feedback on us. In 2017 and 2018, we will explore More directions." Yang Lei said.

At the TIC 2017 conference, in addition to publishing financing information, UCloud launched ten solutions to the characteristics of the industry and announced its future business direction. It is another major focus of the conference.

According to Chen Xiaojian, UCloud made a major structural adjustment last year to clarify the current key industries. The strategic priorities include: financial industry, large entertainment industry, e-commerce industry, live multimedia industry, and traditional enterprises. Facing the evolving public cloud, Chen Xiaojian made an interesting analogy with “building a house.” He believes that “the current stage of public cloud development may be a simple, standard, rough house construction.” At the Iaas level, China’s Public cloud vendors, including, for example, UCloud and other business partners, have reached a level of maturity in terms of functional integrity and stability. "Chen Xiaojian believes that the next thing to do is to create solutions for various industries. Providing more customized solutions is an inevitable trend of cloud services."
