Numerous VR-related hardware unveiled at CES 2017, and probably only one of Koplin's "small" products is not only at a fun level, it is likely to open the door to future VR development.
They recently released an OLED screen measuring just 1 inch in size, but with a resolution of 2048 x 2048 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. This size of OLED screen will be used in the VR head. In order to demonstrate the feasibility, Koplin made a prototype called "Pantile", using their screens, with an angle of field of 90 degrees and a refresh delay of 10 milliseconds.
Nowadays, VR heads on the market are almost always Fresnel lenses. However, these convex lenses inevitably bring cloud crevice light (commonly known as the light of God) and rings (as shown in the figure below). The need to create immersive VR is a side effect. At present, the number of problems that Fresnel lenses combine with these emerging micro-displays is still unknown.
On the other hand, Koplin said that these monitors will be brought to the consumer market, and their CEO had earlier stated that the price of each screen may be 50 US dollars. In addition, Koplin revealed their next plan: Upgrade 2K to 3K, which is almost three times the 1080 x 1200 monocular of Oculus RIft and Vive.
