Vita PSP Reduced Price Promotion

We learned that after Sony Sony Vita had experienced a sluggish Christmas Day sales, Japanese retailers had begun to informally cut Sony Vita prices.

Sony Vita was listed in Japan last month and sold 321,000 units in the first two days. However, sales figures in the second week dropped rapidly to 72,479 units. This figure is comparable to the sales of competitor Nintendo’s 3DS handhelds sold in the second week of last year. It is insignificant.

Japanese retailers have expressed that discounts on Sony Vita are as high as 20%, but are limited to the more expensive 3G version. Obviously, the 3G version of Sony Vita is slow-moving, 3G capabilities itself, plus additional cellular data plans will need to increase costs. In the United States, this means signing a contract with AT&T for $14.99 per month for 250MB of traffic or $25 per month for 2GB of traffic.

PS VITA plans to land on the US market on February 22. GameStop has released relevant sales prices, WiFi version of 249.99 US dollars and WiFi plus 3G version of 299.99 US dollars, the game is priced at 39.99 US dollars.
