Abstract: This article describes the publicly available specifications for LED life prediction being drafted by IEC TC34/SC34A, including the measurement methods for lumen maintenance from the LM-80, and methods for predicting LED lifetime using the average acceleration factor. An example of an LED accelerated life test is also given.

With the rapid development of LED technology, special materials, packaging and thermal management techniques to enhance to a high power LED lighting device represented by a semiconductor has been rapid development in recent years. The long life of LED light source is one of its advantages. However, due to differences in material manufacturing processes, packaging levels and applications, the lumen maintenance performance of LEDs and their products generated by different manufacturers may vary greatly. Recognized standard method for life prediction of lumen maintenance rate has led to confusion in the quality of LED lighting products on the market. Many manufacturers claim that product performance and actual effects are greatly deviated. This is extremely unfavorable for the current industrial development of LED semiconductor solid-state lighting and the improvement of consumer confidence.
In view of this, IEC TC 34 (International Electrotechnical Commission Light and Related Equipment Technical Committee) held the LED Lighting Products and Related Standards Workshop (LED Workshop) in Helsinki, Finland from June 21 to June 24, 2010. At the same time, TC 34 maintenance working group meetings were held, including the Light Source Maintenance Working Group Meeting (MT PRESCO), Lamp Head and Lampholder Maintenance Working Group Meeting (MT EPC).
1/2/3/4), Lamp Attachment Maintenance Working Group Meeting (MT COMEX) and Lamp Maintenance Working Group Meeting (MTLUMEX).
IEC TC 34 also held the DALI Control Devices Workshop and the DALI Control Devices Workshop in Frankfurt, Germany from June 28th to July 2nd, 2010. At the same time, the LIGHT Expert Group Meeting (IEC SC 34A) was held. Expert Meeting on Lamp Accessories (IEC SC 34C COMEX) and Expert Group Meeting on Lamps (IEC SC 34D LUMEX).
The author learned from the meeting that IEC TC34/SC34A is drafting a publicly available specification for "Detection and Prediction of LED-Guangdong Maintenance".
For LED products, life is often claimed in addition to economically actual time detection. Therefore, a standardized method for maintaining lifetime prediction of light is recognized as an urgent market demand.
