Texas Instruments (TI) partnered with Techwell to develop low-cost digital video recorder (DVR) security system technology that brings greater flexibility and more features to low-end video security applications. The solution combines TI's DM6446 DaVinci digital video processor with Techwell's four-channel video and audio controllers, enabling video security system manufacturers to introduce a new generation of low-cost DVR products.Recently, the DVR solution was demonstrated at the SecuTech Expo in Taipei. The demonstration builds on TI's high-performance M6446 digital media processor and uses TI's digital signal processing technology to meet the data-intensive processing requirements of video applications. The technology connects the DM6446 evaluation board (EVM) to Techwell's TW2835 video and audio decoder, which produces a four-channel CIF resolution (352 x 288 pixels) video output. To minimize bandwidth and storage requirements, each channel is compressed using the MPEG-4 algorithm (30 frames per second). The TW2835 multiplexes four channels as inputs to the DM6446, while the DM6446 reads and processes these inputs through a unified high-speed video port. The DVR Security Demonstration provides a foundation for development for secure applications with video recording and multi-camera.
The DM6446 is especially suitable for video encoding and decoding. Its dedicated video processing front end adds video encoding to capture a variety of digital video formats.
